The ProcessWe are in the process of introducing a new system into our arsenal. With the growing demands of bandwidth on the internet we realize the need for bigger better equipment to meet the demand. So we have been in the process of testing new equipment and are almost ready to go live. We have
added our new package information to the website. We have increased our standard monthly usage but we will be strictly enforcing it in an effort to make everyones experience on the internet as favourable as possible. This has taken some time as well as money but like any new product will take some ironing out.
The SystemWe have obtained a license from Industry Canada in order to operate in the licensed frequency range. This also required more work and we now have to pay licensing fees and is an additional reasoning for the increase in price for the higher packages. The basic package however will remain the same for the exception of the increased monthly usage. The new packages will also receive a substantial increase in usage as well as a large increase in average bandwidth. We have also added some new tools for the end user like a Usage Report which will give you an up to date look at what amount of bandwidth you are using.
What happens if I go over on my usage?Up until now we have not charged for using more than the contracted monthly usage (10GB down, 1GB up). Due to the the greatly increased demand for more bandwidth and the cost we have now been forced to strictly enforce usage. We have increased the basic package considerably (20GB total) and created 2 new packages to allow for more bandwidth. We feel we are being very generous with bandwidth but at the same time keeping things controlled so that we have a more balanced network. The charge for going over the allotted usage is $2.00 per GB which we feel is very reasonable.
Should I change to bigger package?If you are finding that your current package lacks the speed or consistency that you want, this may be for you. These new packages will allow for media services such as Youtube, Apple TV, and Netflix to function a lot more seamlessly. Is it available everywhere?Due to the expense it takes to roll out a system like this it WILL NOT be available to all areas at once. We will roll it out as fast as we can to all areas eventually but it will take some time. Please go to our Coverage Area section of the website to see if you are available to try the new system.
How fast is it?Well the really short answer is ... it depends. Depending on where you are and what system your using is only part of it. With the current system you will get UP TO 2Mbps download and UP TO 1 Mbps upload. With the new system we are currently saying you will receive UP TO 6Mbps Download and about the same upload as the current system. Now with that being said we are seeing many customer getting more than 6Mbps of transfer speed in most cases. We DO NOT guarantee any speeds of any kind but at the same time we do our best to give you as much speed as possible. The difference in speeds can depend on a number of factors such as distance from the tower, trees, interference or other line of sight issues.
